The highest hot-spring temperatures in Eureka County are reported in a spring in NW¼ NW¼ NE¼ Sec. 10, T28N, R49E. Wilson (1960a) reported a temperature of 85.6°C from the spring located along the northeastern margin of the Cortez Range, which is bounded by a significant frontal fault, the Cortez fault (Roberts and others, 1967). Trexler, Koenig, Flynn, Bruce and Ghusn (1981; p. 192) reported a temperature of 92°C for the spring, which they refer to as Dann Hot Spring, presumably named for the Dann Ranch about 2 km to the north. They also reported a Dann Ranch well in Sec. 2, T28N, R49E with a temperature of 28°C. This could be the area of a blind anomaly reported by Richards and Blackwell (2002, p. 75). Sinter is present around the spring and along the fault about 0.5 km to the northeast (Richard Loring, written commun., 2002). In March 2003 this spring was 87.3°C flowing at 9 L/min into a circular tank. Samples were not collected at this site because the sampler was asked to leave the site immediately by a nearby landowner.
