Deadhorse Well (updated 2003, 2006)

Water from Dead Horse Wells in Sec. 21, Tl2N, R32E is reported to be hot (Miller and others, 1953). This area is about 16 km west of Wedell Springs and about 7 km southwest of Rawhide. When the site was visited in April 2006, the well site had long been abandoned, and there was no evidence of a well or well head. Dead Horse Wells lies on the west margin of a closed basin while Wedell Springs lies on the east margin of this basin. Hot water was encountered in mineral exploration drill holes about 7 km to the southeast, possibly in Sec. 1, T11N, R32E. Reportedly, irrigation wells 10-12 km to the east, in western Gabbs Valley, have temperatures of about 26°C (Peter Vikre, oral commun., 2000).
