Hot water was encountered in a mineral exploration drill hole drilled by Molycorp in 1980 or the late 1970s. The exact location is unknown, but is probably east of Rock Hill, near Redlich Summit, possibly in the vicinity of NE¼ Sec. 34, T4N, R36E. The hot water was hit at the alluvium-bedrock interface. Drillers reported that the drill pipe was too hot to hold when first removed from the drill hole, possibly 60-80°C.
