(Devils Punch Bowl, Hot Springs on Cress Ranch, Warm Springs near Winter Creek) A number of hot springs are found over a distance of about 22 km, from north of Twin Buttes to near the Humboldt River west of Deeth. Four spring groups are found at the following locations: SW¼ SW¼ Sec. 15, T39N, R59E; SW¼ Sec. 11, T38N, R59E; SW¼ SE¼ Sec. 14, T38N, R59E; and SW¼ Sec. 26, T37N, R59E. The northern hot springs, north of Twin Buttes have a reported temperature of 51°C with a sizeable travertine mound, while springs south of Twin Buttes have temperatures of about 36°C (Tower, 1982). The hot springs and thermal groundwater are reported to be associated with deep meteoric water circulation along the northerly trending Marys River fault, which generally coincides with Marys River Valley along the east side of Twin Buttes. The sodium bicarbonate spring waters yielded a silica geothermometer estimate of a 165°C reservoir temperature (Tower, 1982).
