This section provides outlines of the chemistry used in processing and assaying the Virginia City ores. This picture shows the mine dump at the north side of Virginia City, a remnant of the mining in the late 1800s. The dump probably was merely rock that didn't contain precious metals in high enough concentration for processing. This section describes the ore processing that was used and the way miners knew the rock contained enough precious metal to be processed.
