Nevada State Mapping Advisory Committee 1996 Meeting. The Nevada State Mapping Advisory Committee in conjunction with participating Federal and Local Agencies has developed a list of digital mapping priorities based on a multiple agency needs assessment. It is our goal to encourage all Federal Agencies that have input to the A16 process to include these priorities in their official request. The priorities are listed below, for further details please see attached minutes: PRIORITY NUMBER 1: Completion of Digital Orthophoto Quads (DOQs) and Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) over the Humboldt Basin, Nevada. PRIORITY NUMBER 2: Completion of Digital Orthophoto Quads over part of North-West Nevada, including Southern Washoe County, Lyon, Carson, and Douglas Counties. PRIORITY NUMBER 3: Digital Orthophoto Quads, Digital Line Graphs (DLG core content) for Public Land Survey, Transportation, and Hydrographic features over the Virgin River Basin and Pahrump Valley, Clark and Nye Counties, Southern Nevada and completion of Digital Raster Graphics over Clark County, Nevada. These projects would all utilize existing NAPP (1994) photography. The following agencies have mapping requirements or need digital mapping in one or more of the areas listed above: U.S. Geologic Survey - Water Resources Division, U.S. Geologic Survey - Geologic Division, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Nevada Department of Transportation, Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Washoe County Department of Comprehensive Planning, local City and County Agencies, U.S. Geologic Survey - National Biological Survey, Southern Nevada Water Authority, Clark County Geographic Information Systems Management Office. This digital data would be used by the agencies listed above to address many natural resource inventory and planning, urban growth, biologic diversity, and public safety issues that are of immediate concern to the citizens of Nevada and to the Federal Agencies charged with the task of intelligently managing these public resources. The Nevada State Mapping Advisory Committee is forwarding the above listed priorities to the U.S. Geologic Survey - National Mapping Division as Nevada's 1996 A16 request. Ronald H. Hess Executive Secretary Nevada State Mapping Advisory Committee State Mapping Advisory Committee (SMAC) Annual Meeting 9:00 AM; February 21, 1996 Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology Scrugham Engineering-Mines Building, UNR Campus Room 401, Conference Room Reno, Nevada 89557-0088 MINUTES OPENING REMARKS by Jon Price, Chairman Welcome and Introductions. Report on activities of the SMAC Geologic Mapping Subcommittee by Chris Henry, subcommittee chairman. Chris outlined the procedures used by the Geologic Mapping Subcommittee in identifying the high priority areas versus the lower priority areas. He discussed some of the programs that utilize the Subcommittees priority ranking information to make decisions on what areas should be mapped. Some of these programs included funding for support of geologic mapping. A geologic mapping priority index for the State of Nevada was handed out. Report on activities of the SMAC Geographic Information Systems subcommittee and updates on the 6th Annual State GIS Conference and upcoming 7th annual Nevada State GIS Conference by Lorri Peltz-Lewis, subcommittee chairman and Art Ehrenberg, past Conference Committee chairman. The 6th Annual State GIS Conference was a success with approximately 300 participants. The Conference was well run and thanks were given to Art and the Organizing Committee. The Conference is now hosted by the URSIA Nevada State Chapter, which is a non-profit organization, created to foster the development and understanding of GIS technologies in Nevada. The organization of the 7th Annual GIS Conference, to be held at the Silver Legacy in Reno on January 22-24, 1997, is well under way. The Silver Legacy will make rooms available for conference guests at the Federal per-diem rate of $56.00 per night. Next organizing committee meeting will be March 4th, 1:30 p.m., at the Washoe County Department of Comprehensive Planning. NATIONAL MAPPING DIVISION REPORT by Ingrid Langraf National Mapping Division Cooperative Program overview showing the various types of digital data and areas in Nevada that are covered by this type of mapping. 1:24,000 scale Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data exists over 75% of the State, Digital Line Graph (DLG) data for boundaries and public land survey covers 10% of the State, Hypsography DLGs (digitized contour lines) and Digital Orthophoto Quads (DOQ) cover less then 9% of the State. Digital Raster Graphic (DRG) maps at 1:24,000 scale will cover approximately 15% of the State by midyear. At 1:100,000 scale all 5 DLG layers, the DEM layer, and the DRG layer are complete for Nevada. A price list showing the total fixed cost and cooperator cost of the products listed above, including revision cost, was distributed and a copy is attached. Department of Interior A16 solicitation has gone out with a deadline for response of March 22, 1996. The Interior Geographic Data Committee (IGDC) will be meeting in May to determine the final list of projects to be completed under this A16 solicitation. It is important to prioritize agency A16 request and identify over lapping requirements. A list of contents included in the new Core Content DLG product, that is being developed by the National Mapping Division, was distributed. It has fewer map features then the traditional DLG and will cost less to produce. The price has not been set at present. 1:24,000 scale DEM's can now be requested with a higher resolution, 10 meter post spacing, or the standard resolution 30 meter post spacing.
